The Arctic Gateway Group (AGG) has launched a new brand, symbolizing a renewed vision of commerce and prosperity that also incorporates an ongoing commitment to the communities served by the Arctic Gateway Group’s unique ownership structure, comprising 41 First Nation and Bayline communities.

“We recognized early on that local, Indigenous ownership was going to be the key to making sure the rail line, the Port and the entire trade corridor fully capture the opportunities before us”
— Mike Spence, Chair of the AGG Board and Mayor of Churchill

“We recognized early on that local, Indigenous ownership was going to be the key to making sure the rail line, the Port and the entire trade corridor fully capture the opportunities before us,” said Mike Spence, Chair of the Arctic Gateway Group and Mayor of Churchill. “That’s why it's important to us that our brand reflects our unique ownership model. Arctic Gateway’s commitment to economic reconciliation that brings increased trade and commerce leading to opportunity and prosperity is a core principle, and this new logo is yet another step to ensure all aspects of our operations align with the values and ambitions of northern communities.”

The collaborative design process included extensive input from AGG’s Board of Directors, and features a blend of First Nations, Inuit, and Canadian imagery, all united around a railway, symbolizing the bright future for the Hudson Bay Railway, Port of Churchill, and the entire Arctic Gateway economic trade corridor.

The logo’s elements:

  • The Star at the top signifies the North, where AGG conducts business and connects with customers.

  • The eagle feather represents the partnership of 41 First Nation and Bayline communities. As AGG’s owners, they provide a solid foundation of experience, wisdom, tradition, and economic and ecological stewardship.

  • The ulu, a traditional Inuit tool, morphs into train tracks, moving our eyes to our guiding light in the North.

  • The maple leaf reflects that AGG is a Canadian company, and the importance of this country to AGG’s community ownership model, Board, employees, and stakeholders.

Overall, the logo is in harmony. Each element has equal importance, and the richly blended colours connect those elements together in one direction leading North.

2024 has been a busy year for the Port of Churchill, Hudson Bay Railway, and the entire Arctic Gateway Group. Recent developments include the completion of a new facility dedicated to the export of critical minerals at the Port of Churchill, marking the first new building at the port in decades. This facility will play a major role in the export of zinc concentrate , in August 2024.

Additionally, significant investments continue to be made in the Hudson Bay Rail Line, including 125,000 rail tie replacements, 800,000 feet of track resurfacing, bridge replacement and improvements to others. These enhancements will increase reliability and efficiency of rail service, ensuring consistent access to essential goods and services that northern communities rely on. Already AGG’s upgrades have cut rail travel times from The Pas to Churchill by over 2 hours.

Spence added, “This logo is not just a visual representation of our progress, it is a testament to our collective effort and shared vision for a prosperous and sustainable future.”
